The Pixel 10 Pro: A Year of Love and Frustration
One year ago, I took the plunge and pre-ordered the Pixel 10 Pro. It was a bold move, given my history with Samsung's Ultra phones and the allure of Apple's iPhone 16 Pro. But the promise of a smaller, more manageable phone with superior cameras was too tempting to resist. And, for the most part, I'm glad I made the switch.
What makes the Pixel 10 Pro so captivating is its perfect size. It's not a small phone, but it's not an unwieldy behemoth either. It's just right, offering a comfortable grip and an enjoyable viewing experience without the strain of using one hand. This is a design choice that many manufacturers should emulate, as it's a refreshing change from the oversized phones that have dominated the market.
But the Pixel 10 Pro is more than just a pretty face. It's a smartphone that truly understands the needs of its user. Features like Now Playing, Call Screening, Hold for Me, and Direct My Call are not just convenient; they're essential. These are the kinds of smart features that make the Pixel stand out from the competition, and they're the reason I keep coming back to it.
The camera is another standout feature. While it may not have the most exciting hardware, it delivers consistently excellent results. The Pixel's photos are natural and true-to-life, and the easy-to-access white balance slider in the camera app is a game-changer. The long exposure mode is also a welcome addition, allowing for stunning shots of moving water and other dynamic scenes.
However, the Pixel 10 Pro is not without its flaws. The Tensor chip can get surprisingly hot, even during mundane tasks like scrolling through social media. And the battery life is inconsistent, with some days delivering stellar longevity and others leaving me scrambling for a charger. These issues are frustrating, especially when they plague a phone that has the potential to be great.
Despite these shortcomings, I find myself sticking with the Pixel 10 Pro. It's the phone that feels like an extension of myself, and that's a rare and precious feeling. I'm not ready to give up on Google's flagship device just yet, and I'm hoping that the Pixel 11 series will address some of my concerns. But for now, I'm content to revel in the good times and endure the bad, knowing that the Pixel 10 Pro is still the phone I want to call my own.
